WOJO Nairobi, played host to an exclusive watch party in collaboration with Showmax to celebrate the premiere of the popular series Subterranean.
The event, held at WOJO’s vibrant space at the Mercure Hotel Upperhill, brought together fans, creatives, and community members for an evening of entertainment, networking, and collaboration.
The watch party, provided a unique viewing experience for attendees, who enjoyed the thrilling plot twists of Subterranean in an immersive setting.
The coworking space was transformed into a cinema-like atmosphere, with a large screen, themed decorations, and refreshments that captured the essence of the show’s underground world.
Subterranea, is Kenya’s first sci-fi series, follows eight participants of a psychological experiment who are placed in an underground bunker to test the effects of close-quarter secluded relationships on humans.
Directed by multi-award-winning Kenyan director Likarion Wainaina (Super Modo), the show explores relatable themes such as family, mental health, and less commonly discussed topics like male postpartum depression and PTSD.
Assembling Kenya’s finest actors, Subterranea stars Kalasha winners Foi Wambui (Crime & Justice, Shanga), Peter Kawa (County 49), and Nice Githinji (The Caller), as well as Kalasha nominees Melvin Alusa and Melissa Kiplagat (both from Country Queen). Filmmaker Philippa Ndisi-Herrmann (director of Best Documentary at 2018 Durban International Film Festival, New Moon) who makes her debut as an actor, Makena Kahuha (Kina), Biko Nyongesa (Sense8), Pauline Komu (Groove Theory), the finest theatre kid on the block, Kenyan Theatre Awards winner Dadson Gakenga (Subira), and newcomer Chintu Chudasama round up the ensemble.
A Kibanda Pictures production, the eight-part series has some of the scenes shot at WOJO Nairobi and is written and produced by Brian Munene and directed by Likarion Wainaina, with Martin Kigondu (County 49) and Arnold Mwanjila (Taliya) also serving as writers.
